2012 – Ale list

The list of real ales available during the 2012 Upwey Beer Festival and some taste notes.

2012

1 – Blackmore Ale – Small Pauls 4.3% abv

A copper coloured traditional malty bitter.

Small Paul’s is small by name and small by nature. The beers are brewed only twice a month on a half-barrel plant in Gillingham. Started as an off shoot of home brew in 2006 the beers were so good that pubs wanted to take Paul’s stock, he now supplies 15-20 outlets.

2 – 6d Best – Six Penny Brewery – 4% abv

A well balanced and moreish ale, with a good rounded malt flavour that leads to a bitter finish.

3 – 6d Gold – Six Penny Brewery – 4.2% abv

A superb golden ale, slightly citrus, thirst quenching and distinct hoppy floral aroma brewed using American hops.

4 – Castle Ale 4.3% abv Corfe Castle Brewery

A marvellous light ale, vibrant and refreshing. A beautifully balanced golden ale with a light malt taste and a crisp dry hop finish.

As much an essential part of our heritage as our castle; enjoy with good food and friends

5 – Gloriette 4.7% abv Corfe Castle Brewery

A traditional English Best Bitter with a fine balance of malt and hops, bursting with flavour from natural, quality ingredients

Gloriette; the great banqueting hall in Corfe Castle where guests were entertained by jugglers, musicians and dancers

6 – Pitchfork – RCH Brewery 4.3% abv

The name comes from the Pitchfork rebellion of 1685 the  last battle to be fought on English soil of the Civil War. A golden bitter  with floral citric hop aroma. It has a hoppy predominate taste which is slightly  sweet and fruity and leaves you wanting more.

7 – Mighty Red I.P.A. 3.8% abv- Mighty Hop Brewery, Lyme Regis

Purposely made at a relatively low 3.8% ABV to allow people to enjoy a second one! Plenty of hop aroma and taste, with a blend of malts giving an easy drinking beer.

8 – Fesitval Special Bitter 3.9% abv – Mighty Hop Brewery, Lyme Regis

Lower in alcohol, but stronger enduring bitterness using Green Bullet hops, this mid-dark beer is a real treat. 3.9% ABV

9 – LymeBrau 5% abv – Mighty Hop Brewery, Lyme Regis

Made with Lager-Malt to give a continental taste, together with Czech Saaz hop, this is a really refreshing summer drink. 5%.

10 – Lynx Wildcat 4.3% abv – Yeovil Ales

This beer is a bronze full bodied hoppy bitter. Specialist malts provide a sweetness which is accompanied by grapefruity hop flavours and aromas.

11 – Posh IPA 5.4% abv – Yeovil Ales

POSH IPA is a genuine gourmet Indian Pale Ale of uncompromising quality. Pale with body and mouth feel it’s strength is balanced by a truly fruity late- hopped finish

12 – Gold 4.4%abv – Butcombe Brewery

A refreshing golden bitter brimming with character…not to mention citrus hops and fruit. Made with 100% Maris Otter malt, and brewed using a single variety hop…English Fuggles. A malty fresh vitality gives way to a full bitter sweet finish…pure Gold!

13 – Mendip Spring 3.8% abv – Butcombe Brewery

Mendip spring water (as with all our beers), goes into the brewing of this crisp, thirst-quenching bitter. Light amber in colour…the beer is dominated by hops that give characteristic citrus notes, whilst balanced with a floral aroma and a clean, dry finish. Tantalisingly fresh!

14 – Force 4 4% abv – Isle Of Purbeck Brewery

Celebrating all things great about our Olympic British sailing team – a wonderfully crisp and hoppy blonde beer. Perfect for quaffing on a breezy day.

15 – Jurassic Joule 5% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A lustrous tawny beer with a zingy fresh hop aroma reminiscent of Spring days ahead. A carefully balanced mix of pale, cara and crystal malts all blend for a perfectly smooth and deliciously quaffable ale.

16 – IPA 4.5% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A premium Indian Pale Ale style beer, golden-amber in colour with an abundant spicy and floral hop aroma. The marist grist ensures a wonderful balance of full, smooth malt flavours and a lasting finish.

17 – Double Drop 3.7% abv – Flack Manor

Combining the full flavour of locally sourced floor malted Maris Otter barley and the citrus after notes of whole leaf Sovereign hops.

A perfectly balanced and a very quaffable ale.

18 – Flack Catcher 4.4% abv Flack Manor

A clean distinctive rich golden ale with initial sweetness smoothly spiced with a crisp bitter finish leading to an old fashioned zesty linger.

19 – Silent Slasher 5.1% abv Dorset Piddle Brewery

Blonde, lager style beer crafted with the finest extra pale malt and wheat. Deceivingly light, with hops chosen for their floral aroma and flavour. At 5.1% Silent Slasher is sweet with a refreshing, dry bitter finish.

20 – Yogi Beer 4.9% abv Dorset Piddle Brewery

Smooth with a hint of red, an easy drinking beer of character with a rounded fruitiness giving way to a hint of blackcurrant, liquorice and toffee.

21 – Thunderbox Porter 4.5% abv Dorset Piddle Brewery

Black and full bodied, Thunderbox Porter is packed with light zingy floral and blackcurrent hop flavours.

22 – GREEN Cocky Hop 4.7% abv Dorset Piddle Brewery

Bright, light and GREEN, Cocky Hop is special. Packed with UK grown Cascade and dry hopped with English Goldings giving it a refreshing hoppy zing with a distinguished lasting bitterness.

23 – Lyme Gold 4.2% abv Town Mill Brewery Lyme Regis

Brewed using Maris Otter Pale Malt together with Cascade and Bobek hops.

A pale summer ale. Easy drinking with a refreshing citrus aroma.

24 – Black Ven 5.0% abv Town Mill Brewery Lyme Regis

Brewed using Pale, Crystal, Black and Chocolate malts together with Bobek and Bramling Cross hops.

A dark brown porter with a pronounced depth of flavour, enhanced with the blackcurrant fruitiness of the hops.

Ciders 2012

5 – New Forest Vintage Kingston Black 8% Very Dry

Broadoak KB is made from Kingston Black apples and is a clear, smooth, copper (almost orange) colour cider with a woody finish.The pint starts medium but becomes drier.

3 – New Forest Snakecatcher 7% Dry

Seriously strong, intense in flavour and character, being aged in spirit barrels.

The ignorant might call it rough, but the knowledgeable connoisseur would

consider it a robust English artisanal country beverage. Ideal to accompany

crusty bread, mature cheddar cheese, and a slice of raw onion.

2 – Gwent Y Ddraig Fiery Fox 6.5% Medium

Golden medium cider with a refreshing apple aroma. Smooth balanced flavour that has a fresh, crisp sharpness.

1 – Gwent Y Ddraig Haymaker 6.5% Medium

A fruity medium cider bursting with the flavour of apples. A true Farmhouse Cider with a smooth finish.

6 – Broadoak Old Bristolian 7.5% Medium

Complex cider; a clear yellow, orangy colour. Medium sweet, with a refreshing dry finish. Best seller at the GBBF 2010

4 – Mr Whitehead Equinox 4.5 Medium

Equinox is a light and easy drinking Medium cider, it has both dry and sweet qualities, coupled with a strength that makes it an excellent session cider
