2011 – Ale list

In 2011 we had just in excess of 20 guest ales for you to try plus DT3, DT4 and a special DT Royal on the pump brewed at the The Royal Standard (The venue for The Upwey Beer Festival).. These were accompanied by 8 guest ciders and 11 guest wines. Hopefully, they’ll be something for all to enjoy !!The list of real ales available during the 2011 Upwey Beer Festival and some taste notes.

2011

1 – Funky Monkey – 4.0% abv – Mill Street Brewery Frome

Summer ale boasting as many fruity flavours and aromas as a grocer’s counter: Dry finish with developing bitterness and an undertone of citrus fruit.

2 – Kate Loves Willy 4.3% abv – Skinners Brewery

Easy drinking coper session ale, expertly balanced blend of malt and hops, mid strength, full flavoured with a smooth slightly sweet finish, A celebration in a pint glass!

3 – Sunset 4.3% abv – Isle of Avalon brewery

Strong well rounded premium bitter, colour tawny brown, locally malted barley and left hops, english challenger hop, medium bitter lasting spice, orange aroma with dark fruits hintsof a silky toffee in the light foam.

5 – Posh IPA 5.4% abv – Yeovil Ales

SIBA South West Regional Champion 2010. POSH IPA is a genuine gourmet Indian Pale Ale of uncom- promising quality. Pale with body and mouth feel it’s strength is balanced by a truly fruity late- hopped finish.

4 – Sunrise 5% abv – Isle of Avalon Brewery

Light amber in colour, with a malty start fruits aroma, lingering malt, but full bodied long dry pear drop finish, an indian pale ale.

6 – Spring Forward 4.5% abv – Yeovil Ales

Spring Forward is a full-bodied premium bitter with a fresh aroma & distinctive hop zing.

7 – Black Swan 5.8% abv – Vale Brewery Co.

Dark and smooth with an impressive full roast flavour that belies its strength.

8 – Wychert 3.9% abv – Vale Brewery Co.

A traditional Thames Valley beer, excellent flavours are notable in this strikingly malty beer. With a finish of fruit and nut on the palate.

9 – VPA 4.2% abv – Vale Brewery Co.

Hops from across the Atlantic and Kent’s finest produce an assertive dry hoppy ale combined with a pronounced malt background.

10 – Cocky Hop 4.7% abv – Dorset Piddle Brewery

Bright, light and golden, Cocky Hop is special. Packed with UK grown Cascade and dry hopped with English Goldings giving it a refreshing hoppy zing with a distinguished lasting bitterness.

11 – YOGI 4.9% abv – Dorset Piddle Brewery

Smooth with a hint of red, an easy drinking beer of character with a rounded fruitiness giving way to a hint of blackcurrant, liquorice and toffee.

12 – Silent Slasher 5.1% abv – Dorset Piddle Brewery

Blonde, lager style beer crafted with the finest extra pale malt and wheat. Deceivingly light, with hops cho- sen for their floral aroma and flavour. At 5.1% Silent Slasher is sweet with a refreshing, dry bitter finish.

13 – Leg Warmer 4.3% abv – Dorset Piddle Brewery

What better than a proper alcoholic ginger beer! Nice and pale like the real thing with plenty of fresh gin- ger added to the copper along with Styrian Golding and Saaz hops to give it a fresh lemon earthy finish.

14 – Purbeck IPA 4.8% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A premium India Pale style beer, golden-amber in colour with an abundant spicy and floral hop aroma. Marris Otter malt ensures a balance of full, smooth malt flavours and a lasting finish.

15 – Studland Bay Wrecked 4.5% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A deep red amber ale with rich malt and caramel flavours, combined with a subtle spicy aroma with give a smooth, full flavour.

16 – Solar Power 4.3% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A premium lager style beer, golden in colour with a distinctive ‘noble’ hop aroma from the Bavarian Hallertau late hop edition.

17 – Fossil Fuel 4.1% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A light amber best bitter with a fresh malt and peppery hop aromas. Balanced malt and the hop presence lead to a pleasantly dry, clean finish.

18 – Jurrasic Joule 5.0% abv – Isle of Purbeck Brewery

A wonderful golden amber beer with a zingy fresh hop aroma reminiscent of spring days ahead. A wonderful balance of pale, cara and crystal malts all blend for a perfectly smooth and deliciously quaffable ale.

19 – Eldar Sarum 4.7% abv – Small Pauls’ Brewery

Fantastic example of a summer ale, enhanced with elderflowers in the boil, this very drinkable beer won beer of the festival Weymouth 2010 Octoberfest and Dorchester Beerex 2011.

20 – Mendip Spring 3.8% abv – Small Pauls’ Brewery

Mendip spring water (as with all our beers), goes into the brewing of this crisp, thirst-quenching bit- ter. Light amber in colour…the beer is dominated by hops that give characteristic citrus notes, whilst balanced with a floral aroma and a clean, dry finish. Tantalisingly fresh!

RED San Floriano Cabernet Italy This blackberry and herb scented wine is very light and approachable. The brambly fruit is reflected on a palate with light tannins and silky finish.
RED Wandering Bear Merlot California Fruity and lush beyond belief. Seriously easy drinking! This wine is sumptuous and full with plum, cherry and vanilla. A gorgeous combination.
ROSE Co Vinas Bobal Rose Spain Intense flavours of raspberries and strawberries with a complexity of fresh fruits supported by a well balanced structure.
ROSE Wandering Bear Zinfandel California Drier than many white Zinfandels, this wine has raspberry and watermelon fruit flavours. Juicy and light, it has a refreshing bright acidity on the finish.
ROSE Vin Du Pays Maures France Cool, crisp & pale with zesty pink grapefruit, raspberry on the nose and a dry, citrussy palate with some stawberries soaking into the finish. Great balance & a long, delicious finish
WHITE Outback Chase Semilion Chardonnay Australia Lemongrass and citrus notes give this wine some great character and a finish full of flavour.
WHITE Tierra Sauv Blanc Chile An excellent example of this popular grape variety.
WHITE Grigio Italy Delicate fruit flavours and a refreshing unoaked finish. San Floriano Pinot Grigio is a classic, well presented example
WHITE Wandering Bear Chardonnay California Full of pineapple, pears and apple flavours. This Chardonnay is big and bold with touches of lemon and delicious toasted almond flavours to finish.
WHITE SaaM Mountain Chenin Blanc South Africa Rich tropical aromas of pear, guava and ripe yellow stone fruits jump out of the glass. The abundance of flavours carry through onto the well-structured palate
